We're refreshing road markings on the A11 southbound between the Elveden Bypass and the Fiveways Roundabout, replacing faded and damaged road markings and road studs and laying high friction road surfacing.

Work starts on 23 September 2026
Our initial phase of skid resistance resurfacing work done alongside the A11 Fiveways Roundabout at Barton Mills was successful meaning we can shorten our roadworks.
Work now starts on Wednesday 23 September for two weeks between 8pm and 6am on weeknights only, weather permitting.

Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 September - A11 Southbound Elveden Bypass to London Road Roundabout
Closed overnight.
Monday 28 September to Monday 5 October - A11 Southbound Elveden Bypass to Fiveways Roundabout
Closed overnight.
Southbound road users will need to pick up the A134 and travel north to Mundford:
- head southbound on the A1065
- re-join the A11 at Fiveways roundabout

Project information
Background
An average of approximately 28,000 to 30,000 motor vehicles use this section of the A11 daily, with around 2,000 to 2,500 heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) travelling southbound daily.
These figures are significantly higher than average for an A-road in England.
Keeping the road well maintained helps improve freight movement, supply chains, and road user journeys.
This scheme will help the A11 cope with traffic levels and stay well maintained. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a better defined and safer road surface.
